Abacus plants more trees with RACE at Carvers Recreation Ground

At Abacus Vehicle Hire, we’re proud to announce that—with the latest round of planting now complete—over 6,500 trees have been planted through our ongoing partnership with the local environmental charity Ringwood Actions for Climate Emergency (RACE).

This milestone is more than just a number. It’s a testament to what can happen when businesses, customers, and communities come together with a shared goal: creating a greener, healthier future for all.

A Growing Legacy: What We've Planted

Since we first launched this initiative in March 2021, our journey has grown from customer-matched donations to a pledge of £1,000 every month, helping to fund a variety of native planting projects across the New Forest and surrounding areas.

So far, our donations have funded:

• 🌿 6,270 native hedging plants

• 🌳 42 large specimen trees

• 🍎 158 fruit trees

Each tree is chosen for its suitability to the local environment and is planted with care—complete with guards, stakes, canes, and mulch—to ensure the highest chance of success. In fact, we’re proud to report that only one large tree has failed to establish, showing just how effective this effort has been.

2025 Update: Bigger Trees, Bigger Impact

The most recent round of planting in 2025 has seen a substantial increase in impact and investment. Your support has enabled us to:

• Plant 990 hedging trees at a new cost of £4 each

• Fund 10 large specimen trees, including park-quality protection

• Add another 54 fruit trees to community spaces

This brings 2025’s total spend to £14,080—a significant investment in biodiversity, green space, and local resilience.

Why Trees?

From improving air quality and mental health to protecting water systems and preserving biodiversity, trees do far more than just line our roads or fill our parks:

• Air Quality: Trees absorb pollutants and carbon dioxide, releasing clean oxygen in return.

• Climate Protection: As powerful carbon sinks, trees help mitigate global warming.

• Water Management: Their root systems prevent flooding, soil erosion, and water contamination.

• Wildlife Habitat: A single tree can support hundreds of species, from birds and bees to fungi and mammals.

Want to get involved? Every £2 donated helps plant and nurture a new tree. During your vehicle booking process, just select the "Plant a Tree" option. Your donation goes directly to Ringwood RACE Against Time Ltd, a registered charity who supports vital reforestation and biodiversity work right here in our local area.
